| Military Service: | Soldier of the American Revolution but the National Archives holds no record of his service. He is listed in the D.A.R. Lineage books. Merriman's eldest sister Martha married a distant cousin Col. Issac COOK and it is the writer's opinion that if you find the regiment of Col. COOK that this is the one that Merriman COOK served in, since memebers of the same family often served together. |
| Special Interest: | Removed from Wallingford to the town of Malta in the early 1800's and settled there with several of his sons. The exact date of the move has yet to be determined but it is known that Joseph Cook, the eldest sone of Merriman had moved to Saratoga County in 1801. In the first census of the United Staces in 1790, the family of Merriman and Mary Cook was located in Wallingford, New Haven County, Connecticut. In 1820 Merriman Cook is found in the Town of Marta, Saratoga County, New York where he resided next to the families of his sons Samuel and Sherlock. |
