Note:
Major George Moore, CSA, served with Company G, 41st Mississippi
Regiment, and is so recognized by the UDC National Roll Vol 5, p 78. He
grew up in Columbus but after his marriage moved to Deerbrook in Noxubee
County MS. That county is just south of Lowndes County MS and west of
Aliceville AL. Major Moore held extensive land at Deerbrook and he
resided there until his death in 1874. It appears that the devastating
effect of the Civil War left him in relative poverty, and the raising
of his five surviving children (who called him "Papa") proved
to be most difficult.
